Statement of policy
Our Safety, Health, Environment and Sustainability Framework and Future Action

We are determined to play our part in upholding the larger global perspective, and will align ourselves with the UN SDGs, mapping them with our top material issues, allocating internal resources, taking relevant actions, and building technical capabilities.

We are also working on greater integration of ESG into our business and building stronger stakeholder relationships by intensifying dialogue and communicating our vision and progress around material issues.

The Sustainability Ambassador Programme.

This platform engages our employees on the sustainable development agenda, enabling our water, waste, energy, safety, and health ambassadors to lead sustainability transformation within and outside the company through proactive collaborations.

The programme has six key tracks – each focused on six different areas in environment, health, and safety.

Through our Women Safety Ambassador programme, we aim to empower our female employees with self-defence techniques.

Our Road Safety Ambassador programme is focused on creating awareness of road safety and driving behaviour.

The Health Ambassador programme certifies people, with the view to promote good health and well-being by creating awareness on the maintenance of a healthy lifestyle.

We launched our Water Ambassador programme to build awareness on water conservation, reuse, recycle, and water harvesting interventions.

We launched the Waste Ambassador programme to sensitize participants about waste management and its underlying concepts such as the 3R principles of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.

Energy Ambassador programme builds awareness on energy conservation and helps create agents who can proactively identify opportunities to enhance energy efficiency.

Environment

We are committed to taking meaningful action for a sustainable future. With our long-standing commitment to protecting the environment, we are working on solutions that help minimize the impact of our operations, driving improvements in multiple areas at various stages of Research and Development. Our environmental goals are focused on optimizing energy, making responsible use of our natural resources, and reducing waste to help shape sustainable progress. We will also maximize the usage of renewable energy while reducing rapidly the use of fossil fuels. We believe collaboration is an important step to environmental stewardship, and we are working closely with our value chain partners to assess and help reduce their environmental impact.

Besides resource conservation, we are working on renewable energy projects, green chemistry, solvent recovery, waste reduction at source, and energy audits. We are committed to efficient and sustainable water management practices and comply with local regulations and compliance requirements. We carefully measure and assess the risks and impacts of the hazardous substances in wastewater.

we have implemented Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) facility to avoid the discharge of untreated wastewater effluents, we use the ZLD water treatment engineering approach. All waste water is treated, contaminants are reduced to solids through ZLD, all the treated water is channelled back for usage in our utilities.

Biomedical Waste Management

Waste segregation at source and central waste storage for easy pickup, ensuring that 100% compliance on waste disposal & treatment. Bio-medical waste classified into 4 categories with colour coding. Accountability in bringing the concept of reduce, recycle & reuse to the fore through establishing the standards that include training, immunization, bar-coding of waste, segregation, treatment and disposal. Web based reporting and well-defined responsibilities ensures trust for better environment protection, Occupation Health & Safety. No untreated bio-medical waste shall be kept stored beyond a period of 48 hours. The validity of authorization and submission of annual reports are synchronized with the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) & Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) norms. Records in relation to generation, collection, reception, storage, transportation, treatment and disposal are been maintained. Vaccination of required staff and periodical medical surveillance program in place.

Occupational Health & Safety

At Aurigene, we emphasize strongly on the health, safety, and well-being of our people. We continuously strive to create a work environment that is free from any occupational hazards, regardless of where our people are located or what type of work they carry out.

We are committed to create a zero-incident and zero illness work environment. We introduced the My Sustainability Index (MSI) in all staff scorecards. MSI is a quantitative index to monitor our progress in safety linked thrust areas. The index assesses performance over 10 parameters in cultural management and safety systems management, forms a part of the company scorecard, and has a direct impact on the performance evaluation of the site.

We have developed and implemented strong health and safety systems at all our site. These systems are guided and driven by our established policies and procedures. Periodic assessments are conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the systems implemented and appropriate measures are taken to further improve our Health and Safety performance continually. We remain committed to providing safe working environments through continuous improvements in our infrastructure, work practices and behaviours. We have developed a guidance document which provides the course on how to identify, evaluate SH&E risks, and reduce them to an acceptable level by strengthening existing controls and/ or incorporating additional controls for all the activities within the premises of the organization. The standard clearly outlines the role and responsibilities of individuals directly involved in identifying and mitigating SH&E risks. Every department head interacts with the team on regular basis through Toolbox talks. In safety meetings, scientists actively participate to give suggestions and feedback for improvement of SH&E practices.

Following preemployment screening, annual health check-up is organized to determine the progress made by the employee and contract workmen. Our OHC services includes regular consultation with the people and guide proper healthcare. Health ambassador programme drives the wellness program initiates encourages to promote good health.
